The rise of Agile Integration, Integration is not DEAD nor LAME!

I wanted to blog about this for a very long time, but because of work and being too lazy to turn on my laptop on the weekends, now I finally have a couple of hours to sit down and start blogging.

"Integration is DEAD."
"No, no, let's talk about microservice!!"
"What is that again? Integration, you mean SOA? It's lame... ".

These makes the majority of the percentage when I talk about Integration. In fact, if you happen to be in any the software conference, you see the rooms full when it's about "container" and "microservice." I understand the nature of a developer, always seeking for the latest and greatest technology out there. BUT!! In my opinion, I don't think Integration is going AWAY if you containerize your application. Neither does it will DISAPPEAR in a microservice architecture. Red Hat JBoss Fuse - Applying API Best Practices in Fuse

API plays a huge part in modern integration architecture design, a good design will allow your application to thrive, a bad design will end up on the cold stone bench and eventually vanishes :(....
Well, to avoid this tragic happens to our APIs, there are certain guidelines that we might want to consider to follow, I know there are lots of debates out there on the best practice of API design, and I don't think it will ever end. It is really depending on many different factors, mostly dominate by the size and complexity of the integration solution, and the company culture. And many of them are related to how to manage it instead of designing. (Of course there are many others like API security, how to do versioning and all these sorts of things. These are more closely related to API management, that I will not cover in this post. )

Red Hat JBoss Fuse - Getting Started with Fuse Integration Service 2.0 Tech preview

I just realized that I did not do a getting started for Fuse Integration Service 2.0 Tech preview before I did the pipeline demo, thanks for those of you who reminded me! :)

To get started with FIS 2.0, for people who has just getting to know the technology, here is how I interpret it. Basically, it's divide into two aspect,

1. Integration development, FIS uses Apache Camel as the core technology that creates, orchestrate, compose microservices into a super lightweight thin integration layer, and become the API provider and service orchestrator through exposing RESTful or messaging service endpoints. And you can choose to either package and run it with Spring-Boot or Karaf.


2. Application Deployment and Management, FIS takes advantages of OpenShift platform, and allows you to separately deploy the micro-integration service among distributed environment, at the same time takes care of the failover, high availability, load balancing and service lookup problem for you.

Red Hat JBoss Fuse - Automate integration CI/CD processes

Long time no see :) , for many of you who knows me, I've been through a major change in life, moving to another country for couple of years, that is why there are less updates in my blog. But, I am back! Getting back to business. Fuse Integration Service 2.0 Tech preview was out two weeks ago, since this version is base on OpenShift 3.3, which has pipeline capability prebuilt on top of it (Tech preview on OpenShift as well). This get it one step closer to a more automated and agile continuous integration, and deployment one-stop platform for us, the integration developer.

For the pipeline to work on OpenShift, you will need Jenkins installed and running. OpenShift uses it to build, process and handle all the workflows. If you are familiar with developing in openshift, to build the pipeline is pretty simple and straight-forward. Red Hat JBoss Fuse/A-MQ - Fuse and A-MQ Version 6.3 GA is released!

Fuse and A-MQ 6.3 GA has just went out. Maybe, you would think this is just only a minor version release why should I care? Hold your thoughts on that! Because they have done a lot of improvements and also added many new features into this release.

Besides various bug fixes and making sure Fuse Fabric is much more stable. There are two major change in this version update:

New Tooling in JBoss Developer Studio (JBDS) 9.1 GA. Newer Apache Camel version – Camel v2.17. I was really impressed by the work put in to make developing Camel application much simpler. First is the installation of tooling itself. Now it has a all-in-one installer so you don't need to worry about which plugins you need to check. See the videos below to see the new "Getting Started" of Fuse 6.3.



And If you notice from the above video, the presentation of camel route in JBDS has also updated. It fixed some of the miss representation of logic and making it easier to read.

Red Hat JBoss A-MQ - A-MQ 7 alpha is ready!

I am sure this is the moment we have all been waiting for a long time, JBoss A-MQ 7 is finally out and is currently in Alpha. A-MQ is a fast and flexible messaging platform that reliably delivers information and easily integrates the various components in your application environments.

A-MQ 7 consists of several new components and features, it is base on Project Apache ActiveMQ Artemis. The code base was donated by HornetQ. Having high performance journal base on NIO implementation, allows A-MQ 7 to become a fast , high performance and reliable messaging platform.  Rather than relying other persistence storage it is very highly optimized for general message use cases. JBoss Fuse integration service - Enhancing Customer Experience Through Integration and Automation of Business Events in the Cloud

This year in Red Hat summit, I have to honor to work with two intelligent colleague of mine Eric Schabell and Siamak Sadeghianfar to share an interesting workshop. The main theme on the workshop is demonstrate how rules automation can be implemented on the cloud and how to take advantage of the integration service to expose API and scalable across the network.

Red Hat OpenShift, is a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) that allows developers to quickly develop, host, and scale applications in a cloud environment.  The lab goes through basics concept of OpenShift, explaining the following terminology in OpenShift.

Container: Lightweight mechanisms for isolating running processes
Image: A binary that includes all of the requirements for running a single container, as well as metadata describing its needs and capabilities.
Pod: A small group of tightly coupled Containers sharing network, storage, etc
